Cut and polished ammonites

Some ammonites cannot be cleaned using traditional mechanical methods. The rock can be impossible to remove from the ammonite, we refer to this as a 'sticky' ammonite nodule. When this is the case I will usually cut and polish the ammonite to show its internal structure. Sometimes only sections of ammonites are found and this is the best way to present them. The fossils are cut using a diamond circular blade. They then go through 4 different grades of sanding belts before being polished and then buffed to a high glass finish.
